Adventures :)

I think that we all enjoy adventures. We all go about them in different ways too. Some people like to set dates and plan and save money, others like to be spontaneous and follow a snappy idea. Well, I am not sure that Rian and I are really either one of those. We try and plan and save, and then the date all the sudden shows up and we're not ready for it. And to be spontaneous you have to have money to be able to afford the "come on let's just do it!" adventures. Which Rian and I have absolutely no money. So we mostly do stuff like "Let's go get a drink at Walker's" (the gas station down the street from our house that we visit so often everyone there knows us by name). That is about the extent of our adventurousness.
About once every other week we meet up with my Aunt that lives about a half hour away from us and we go to the temple together. Sometimes we go up and see her at the Timpanogos Temple or sometimes she will come down and we will go to the Provo Temple. Earlier this week we made plans with her that we would go up there and go do a session together. Well, last night while I was at work she text me and said she had some things come up and she would only be able to go either at 7 a.m. or at 5 p.m. Rian had to go to work at 3 p.m. and so I opted for the early time. She told me that she would meet us in the lobby at 6:40 a.m. Those of you who know me know that I am not fast at getting ready. I get distracted by the smallest things and I dread it anyway. Plus we had to schedule in time for the drive. So that meant that I would be getting up at 4 a.m. to be able to get ready and go for the travel. Rian was at work when I got home and so as I was waiting for him to get off I was planning out in my mind how I could break it to him that I signed us up for an early meeting. He isn't a morning person and so I knew he wouldn't be too happy about it. He didn't get home until 10:30 from work and I knew he would be tired from the whole day. I was bored out of my mind from sitting in my house for so long and only able to watch so many movies for so long. When he got home he said that we could go for a ride or something and that there was some great lightening going on out west of town. As we were walking out the door I told him about the temple situation in the morning. He wanted to just go to bed right away after that, but I wasn't wanting to sit at home for another minute. So we drove down to Wendy's and got some food and then went across the street to Walker's to get a drink. As we were leaving Walker's Rian had this great idea that we could go stay at my Aunt's house so that we wouldn't have to get up as early and then we would already be there. I was all surprised that he had come up with such a genius idea. We decided to follow the whimsical magic of the lightening and be spontaneous. So we ran home and started packing. I called my Aunt to let her know we were on our way. Well she didn't answer her phone but I wasn't worried that we wouldn't be able to get a hold of her. (this is the beginning of our adventure) I kept reassuring Rian that she would answer her phone because she always has her phone on. She is a phone junkie. As we are driving I kept calling her to see warn her that we were on our way. Well right before we were there I called and her phone went straight to her voice mail and Rian panicked. We got to her house and we were able to get into her garage, but I knew from living with her that she still locked the door to the house from inside the garage. So we tried it anyway and like I thought, locked. We knocked on the door a few times, found some keys and tried to force them into the lock, searched the garage for a hide-a-key, and there was pretty much no way that we were getting in. At this point Rian was mad at me. I felt bad because he was tired and we had to get up early and I knew that he was going to have to work tonight. He asked if we should just go home but he didn't really think that was a good idea either because we would get home really late and have to wake up even earlier just to drive back up there. So we talked about sleeping in the car, and then the garage, thought about a motel for about 5 seconds, and then opted for the car.
The car. Oh the car. My car is not very big and Rian is really tall. So I took the front seat and said that he could lay down in the back because I knew it would give him more room to stretch out. It was not working out. I didn't have anywhere to put my legs, my head was too level with my body so my nose was getting plugged up, and I don't know about you but sometimes I wish I could sever off an arm because they just get in the way when laying down. Needless to say..... It was rough. So I had this brilliant idea that my back seats lay down and then we could have more room to lay down because then we would have the space of the trunk too. So we got out and layed the back seats down and then layed the front seats down thinking it would make more room and then maneuvered ourselves into the car. I have a father that is always making sure that his girls are very well prepared for any sort of car breakdown. Thus meaning I have tow straps and jumper cables, a tool box, windshield washer fluid, a quart of oil, and many other things that I couldn't even name. We didn't have anywhere in the car to move those things to, so we had to try and sleep around them. As we were laying there I was laughing my head off. I thought that it was so funny and just our luck that this would happen. Rian on the other hand, wasn't laughing so much. He told me that maybe in 30 years it might be funny(meaning right now it is not funny at all). We were laying there, not comfortable in any way shape or form and I decided that we should go knock on my Aunt's front door and ring the doorbell. Surely that would wake her up. It would have to. So Rian and I wiggled and wormed our way back out of the car. We rang the doorbell like 6 times. Nothing. Geeze that woman can sleep! We went on another search around the front yard trying to find a hide-a-key, but I knew better and knew there was no such one. So back to the car. Scrunching ourselves and stuffing body parts into crammed spaces. I finally had to ask if he wanted to go to a motel. We whipped out my phone and Googled like 5 different motels. Oh nope! All of them were booked for the night. More luck just running our way. So the car it was. I could not get comfortable and I could feel my nose stuffing up because I didn't have a pillow. And for some reason Rian had decided to pack towels, however, they were in the garage. We had decided the leave all our stuff in there. So back out it was for me to try and find something more comforting to sleep on. By this time it was 1:45 a.m. We had to get up in three hours. We didn't sleep. It was a really rough night. I was freezing cold and Rian was sweating. He is just way too big for that car. The alarm went off at 5 a.m. and I was sure that my Aunt would have to be waking up soon to get ready. So we rolled and pushed back out of the car and rang the doorbell. Nothing. Great! I had to pee so bad so we decided to go find a gas station. We drove to the nearest one, closed. Went across the street to the grocery store, close. So off we went to Wal Mart. When we got back to my Aunt's house I just knew that she had to be awake. Lights still off, Aunt still sleeping. So this time I decided that I was going to brake down the door knocking if I had to. I went up and rang the doorbell and had it out with the door. About 10 seconds later I see my Auntie peeking through the blinds so I waved with a big smile on my face. She opened the door shocked to see me. So I told her what happened and she said she had just checked her phone about 10 minutes before to make sure that we didn't back out on her and she didn't have any missed calls or messages. WHAT?? I had been calling all night long! She let us in and would not stop apologizing to us because she felt so bad that we slept in the car. Turns out her phone malfunctioned somehow and all of her services were shut off. She couldn't call out, no one could call in. No one really knows how or what happened. Just somehow God wanted Rian and I to spend the night in the car. We went to the temple and had a great time. Then she took us to breakfast and the food was great. We took a 2 hour nap at her house and then headed back home so that Rian could get to work. She sent us home with lots of food for the next week and yummy treats that she had made. Oh yes, and a key to her house so that in case we do ever decide to venture up to her house without her knowledge again, we could get in and be able to sleep on a bed. Our little adventure was interesting. Today Rian was able to laugh about it and say that it was funny, even though he didn't think so last night. I think that is why it is called an adventure. Expect the unexpected, be prepared for anything, and I know you just have to laugh. It makes it seem so much better. Everything that could go wrong did, and somehow, in that tiny car with my cute Rian, I had so much fun. Life is all about the adventures and the way that you take them. So take the whimsical adventures and have fun, even when everything goes wrong.

So I started out laughing my head off, and then you left me all tender at the end with your insightful philosophies about taking what comes your way. Where have you been hiding all of this writing talent all of these years? I am looking forward to more of where that came from. Love you!
